Hello Twenty Twelve!

Revved up for an exciting year! You can expect quite a few new releases — David Newberry “No One Will Remember You”, debut from Hello Polly “All Messed Up”, as well as releases from Spoon River, Herald Nix and the Pointed Sticks.

Plus! Victoria’s Budokan has joined the Northern Electric fold with their debut “Spin A Little Gold” to be released in late March on gold vinyl! Look for upcoming show announcements in Vancouver and Victoria.

Have you seen “Bloodied But Unbowed” yet? For those unfamiliar this is an amazing rock doc celebrating our rich local music scene of 1978 – 81. It’s playing regularly on Super Channel this month and Beat Route Magazine is presenting a screening tonight (8pm) at the Astoria with a Rock Show to follow featuring Hello Polly, as well as the Jolts and the B-Lines. Should be a whole lot of fun.

The new BC Musician Magazine is also out and features our beautiful ad on its back cover (seen here).  We proudly contribute the cover art each issue. It’s been great to see this publication grow and evolve over the past few years as a voice for BC musicians from BC musicians and artists. Regular contributors include Geoff Berner, Carolyn Mark and Linda McRae.

Hot Fun in the Summertime

Busy time in Northern Electric land. Pointed Sticks in town recording and lots of great shows — tonight Spoon River headlines Moonshinin Music Fest in Langley (the video above is from last week’s great show at The Fairview), The Enablers (Modelos/Bughouse 5) are playing Falconetti’s for a filming of Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives TV show, The Mike Van Eyes are playing the Yale both tonight and tomorrow night — and next week it doesn’t let up with the kick-off of “Kozmik Kabaret” Sept. 1st at The Kozmik Zoo with both Reno Jack The Bear and Mike Van Eyes,  plus the Nervous Fellas also at The Zoo on Saturday night, Sept 3rd with very special guest Minimalist Jug Band. Also on Sept 1st in Victoria, David P. Smith and Scott Henderson perform as Tool & The Eel with Eugene Chadbourne (playing the Kozmik Zoo Sept 5). International Pop Overthrow is also trying to get glam sensations Hello Polly to join their Saturday night finale (also Sept 3) – just trying to confirm that these jet-setters are all in town. Later in the month Flatback plays the Kozmik Zoo and David Newberry visits the Royal City for a show.

Herald Nix Woodblock Prints

The new issue of BC Musician features some of the woodcut posters created by Herald Nix for his shows in the 80’s. The bi-monthly magazine dedicated this issue to art and music with a special section on early Vancouver punk posters that we helped present. Fun interviews with Ian Tiles, Bob Mercer, Joe Shithead, Elizabeth Fischer, Nicole Steen and David Boswell. Herald’s posters are featured with one on the cover and a few more inside. Here are those and a few more. Scans courtesy of Chris Cran‘s collection. Thanks to Chris, BC Musician and Herald Nix for finding and presenting these.
